The base
The base of such a champion loft are not the racers that bring their names on the results. The real base is the race or the pigeons that produce the winners. This is very well known by these fanciers and they are aware of the "rich" base they own. Staying at the top for all these years, proves the capability of these people, who cherish their animals.
The leading part in this base is leading to Gommaar Verbruggen, another master in our sport. A name we often meet in the pigeon world as the provider of good blood. So in fact the Van Avondt duo are great admirers of this man and they are really thankful. More than 50% of the colony is Verbruggen, coupled to their own old race and some successful pigeons of Leo Van Horenbeeck, Alfons Wuyts and Flor Engels.
The past years the loft got reinforced with pigoens from top-fanciers like The Herbots Brothers, Albert Derwa, Van Leest-Peeters, Walter De Rijck, Robert Van Eycken, Van Looy-Somers, Ysschol-Janssens, Aerts Gebr and D&L Van Dijck and this with success.

Big, bigger, biggest
From the beginning of the nineties, the Van Avondt loft was always there. In '93 they came forward with their 1st Semi National from Chateauroux against 4.520 pigeons, together with a 3rd Semi National against 13.996 pigeons. In the mean time they also reached the list of honour of the KBDB in 1989, as provincial champions. Since then, their success didn't stop till 2005 !!!

In less than 10 seasons they won:

• 2 x 1st national
• 8 x 1st Semi-National
• 20 x 1st Provincial
• 4 x 2nd National or Semi-National
• 8 x 3rd National or Semi-National
• 8 x 4th National or Semi-National
• 8 x 5th National or Semi-National
• 134 times in the Top 20 National or Semi-National !!!
• 108 times 1st Champion since 1989 !!!
  
  

In short not less than 46 x in the top 10 of the national and semi national results! Don't you think they deserve a statue?
When it comes down to the championships and the Ace-pigeons, they show up 25 x as the first on the national, provincial and interprovincial lists of honour. At least 10 x 1st in Demer & Dijle. In Sans Peur Herent, their local club and one of the strongest of the country, 10 x 1st.
Further we can also mention: Avé Régina, Hafo Noord Brabant, Fleurus, Hafo Leuven, FDDV Lede, De Gevleugelde Vrienden, Centre-Est, Riddersclub, De Reisduif, The Kid Boys and surely a lot of others.
